Description: Chakotay and Ensign Unimportant are lost and land on a planet. Immediately after landing they're attacked, and the surviving officer, Chakotay, is taken away to be healed. Riley Frasier, a human, tells them that they were taken here by an alien, but what really happened was they were assimilated by the Borg. Apparently five years earlier the ship was hit by an electrokinetic storm, disabling their ship and freeing many of the drones. Some 1100 were found dead on board when Voyager arrived.
Meanwhile, Chakotay is dying, and they want to stick a neural link in his spine to heal him. He finally agrees and is fully recovered. Unfortunately, the Captain won't return the favor: they want to reactivate the neuralelectric generator to unite everyone on the planet. Finally, facing their death, they get Chakotay to do it, and then destroy the cube, creating a new collective.
Comments: Wow, there's a communist society if I've ever seen one. Let's strip everyone of their individual will and work on collective farms, won't that be great. Yeesh. Kudos to the Voyager crew for recognizing that this society ain't that great of an idea.
Special Kneebler Commentary: Let's say that, on a positive note, Chakotay starts making logical decisions. He recognizes when things are wrong and he took correct actions. On a negative note, are half of the Voyager crew that inept at technical knowledge? The ensign at the beginning seemed completely insecure in her duties, flying in circles and getting their ship lost. And Chakotay ends up on the Borg Cube trying to reactivate the generator under the control of the group on the planet. Meanwhile, Tuvok, Ens. Kim, and two others are on the Borg Cube searching for him. They walk within fifteen feet of him; scanning for life signs anyone?
Rating: 6
Best Moment: Chakotay shooting Torres. I just thought it was neat.
Stupid Neelix Moment: Neelix laughs and hands people food.
Continuity Question: Why aren't they scanning for Chakotay on board? It's not like they're going to be running into a whole lot of other people. "Aw damn, I keep reading me!"
